Pupils and teachers at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools celebrated another year of outstanding A Level results, with 81% A*- B grades at Monmouth School and 79.8% A*- B grades at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls. There were 29 boys who received at least 3 A*/A grade A Levels and 25 girls.
The Schools were delighted with the results which highlighted the pupils’ and teachers’ hard work and dedication. The Schools were particularly pleased that the majority of pupils gained their first or second choice place at university, in a year where over 200,000 students will miss out on a place.
Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls recorded a 100% pass rate, with one girl gaining 5 A*s, three girls achieving 4 A* grades and a further two girls gaining 3 A* grades.
Jenny gained 4 A*s and will go on to study at St. Andrews. Rebecca gained 3 A* grades, and will now take a place at Keble College, Oxford, to read Philosophy and Theology and Robyn gained 2 A* and 1 A grade and will read Chemistry at St Edmund Hall, Oxford. Tara gained 3 A*s and 1 A and will study medicine at Imperial College London.
Mrs Helen Davy, Headmistress at HMSG said,
“I am delighted that the girls’ hard work over the past two years has been reflected in their excellent results. 17.46% of grades were A*, a figure which is well above the 8.2% national average. Given the anxiety about over-subscription in what has been the hardest year to gain entry to a British university, I am very pleased to report that the vast majority of the girls have secured places at their first choice university, with three girls taking up their places at Oxbridge.”
Monmouth School recorded a 100% pass rate, and 54.8% of the grades were A*/A.
Amongst the boys collecting their results today were Elgan and Dan who each gained 3 A*s and 1 A grade. Josh gained 3 As, whilst rowing in the GB junior squad. Ben has won a place at St Edmund Hall, Oxford to read Materials Science after gaining 4 A grades.
Dr Steven Connors, Headmaster at Monmouth School said,
“These results reflect the tremendous effort they have made over the past two years and show what boys can achieve in a supportive environment which cultivates aspiration and a love of learning. This year’s results were outstanding, with 81% A*-B grades and 29 boys gaining at least 3 A*/A grades. With the guidance of their dedicated teachers, the boys have responded to the challenge of these examinations and leave the School as talented, enthusiastic and well-rounded young men with bright futures ahead of them.”
